Written By Prolific Wellness Chiropractic and Sports Rehab on November 25, 2024

The elbow is a key connecting point in your arm where the humerus bone meets the radius and ulna. Because these bones connect to a lot of other bones, like the ones in your fingers, there are many nerves running through and around your elbow. This being said, elbow pain and injuries are common.

What is elbow pain?

Elbow pain can be categorized as many things. It can be a low level pain that is from irritated muscles in the elbow area, it can also be the joints or ligaments in the elbow. Additionally, osteoarthritis, which is arthritis in the elbow, is the most common version of arthritis.

The main two types of elbow pain are in the lateral epicondyle and medial epicondyle. These are categorized by the location of the pain in the elbow. Lateral epicondyle is the bump on the outside of the elbow, and medial epicondyle is the bump on the inside of your elbow.

Why might you have elbow pain?

A lot of elbow pain is caused by strained or inflamed tendons and ligaments. However, arthritis and other long-term conditions can cause significant elbow pain. Additionally, tennis or golfer's elbow are very common injuries that happen when someone overuses their elbow when doing repetitive motions, such as swinging, rowing, throwing, etc.
